Jesus Christ is calling each of us to open our hearts to a relationship with Him. He will not go where He is not invited so the choice is ours to make the relationship work. Jesus has already made all the necessary overtures to engage in a relationship with us: He has given us a conscience to convict us of our need for Him (Romans 2:14-15), He made it possible for our sins to be forgiven (Romans 5:8), He has given us the Bible to authenticate the truth (John 17:17), and He has given believers the Holy Spirit so that we may commune with Him (1 John 4:14). While the message in Revelation 3:20 was specifically directed to believers in the church, it is also applicable to unbelievers who have never responded to the Lord. "The Lord is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31).
