The world teaches us many things that are of no eternal value. Those who have rejected God's love are living a lie and don't know the truth. This is why it is important to know where a person stands in their relationship to God before we apply their counsel to our lives. In a world guided by feelings that change with the wind, we can indeed know the truth. God gave us the truth in His Word (John 17:17). By studying God's Word with a desire for an ever-closer personal relationship with Jesus, we grow in faith by applying the truth to our lives. When our faith is in Jesus, we are blessed with the Holy Spirit Who guarantees us eternal life (2 Corinthians 1:22). Having a relationship with the source of all life is like a tree by a river which is not dependent on the rain for its life-giving water: "whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper" (Psalm 1:3). If knowing that you have eternal life is what you are thirsting for let into your life the Jesus who said, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink" (John 7:37).
