Unless we follow Jesus, our life’s pursuits will be limited to the world. When we follow Christ, our eyes are fixed on Him and we have an eternal perspective. We become more concerned with eternal matters than with things in the world. This does not mean we disassociate ourselves with the world, but our attitude about why we do what we do changes (1 Corinthians 10:31). This world and all that is in it will be burned up (2 Peter 3:10) so making the world your priority to the exclusion of eternal matters is foolishness (Mark 8:36). We will be judged for works that have eternal value (1 Corinthians 3:11-14). There is nothing we can do that has more eternal value than helping others to know Jesus who said, "make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting home" (Luke 16:9). If you want more than this world can offer, just invite Jesus into your life: "if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9).
